Mindful Living Couples Retreat (12/6-12/8/19)

For Health Care Professionals and the Mindfulness Community

mindful-livingWHEN: December 6 - 8, 2019 at Commonweal Retreat Center.
Retreat begins at 3:00 pm on Friday and end at 1:00 pm on Sunday.

This retreat will focus on the cultivation of interpersonal mindfulness practices to support empathy and resonance in both our personal and professional relationships. It is an opportunity for couples to deepen intimacy and presence, and enrich their relationship.

This will be an experiential retreat and involve interpersonal meditation practices such as stillness and movement meditation, mindfulness based communication exercises and loving kindness practices. Didactic presentations and group discussions will explore how to integrate mindfulness practice into personal and professional life.

The clinical relevance and application of these skills will be highlighted to support the dignity and integrity of the clinician-client relationship. In addition, the role of awareness in preventing professional burnout and compassion fatigue will be discussed.

There will be periods of silence and opportunities to commune with nature and enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings. Couples will have ample private time for focused inquiry and compassionate listening to nurture curiosity, connection and understanding in the relationship.

This retreat provides time away from the clamors of day-to-day life and an opportunity to replenish body, mind, and spirit at a private and beautiful retreat center.

Learning objectives include:

  • Be able to describe the theory and practice of mindfulness meditation
  • Identify clinical applications of mindfulness in medicine and psychotherapy
  • Identify mindfulness practices that promote healthy living and prevents compassion fatigue and burnout
  • Identify skills to teach clients how to work more effectively with stress and stress related illness
  • Identify pathogenic reactions to stress
