Spirit Rock 6 Night Residential Retreat: Mindfulness of the Body (2010)
This retreat will work primarily with the first of the foundations of
mindfulness, that of the body. We will spend the beginning of the
retreat exploring mindfulness of breathing, then expand into an
exploration of the body. We will work with an introduction to
mindfulness of the 32 parts of the body, as taught by Taungpulu
Sayadaw, as well as reflections on the four elements and the ending of
the body in death. These practices lead to an understanding of the
true, impermanent nature of the body and its basic elements.
We will follow the usual format of an Insight meditation (Vipassana)
retreat, with periods of sitting and walking practice, as well as yoga
sessions for further exploration of mindfulness of the body.
